Lions, Tigers, and Surveyors--Oh My! Building Hospice Survey Readiness

Description

Lions, tigers, and surveyors—oh my! Hospice is under the greatest scrutiny in its history, and for hospice leaders the survey can feel like a dark and unpredictable forest. Heightened complaint activity, CMS program-integrity efforts, increased survey oversight, and the threat of enforcement remedies up to termination mean hospices must be survey-ready every single day. This session lights the path through the hospice survey process—from the Conditions of Participation at 42 CFR Part 418 and the surveyor procedures in State Operations Manual Appendix M to the enforcement remedies at 42 CFR Part 488. From a clinician’s perspective, Annette Lee will share where hospices are most often cited—certification of terminal illness, the interdisciplinary group plan of care, comprehensive assessment, and drug management—and how to turn the IDG meeting you already hold into your survey-readiness and QAPI engine. Leaders will leave with the courage, the heart, and the brains—plus a concrete, year-round framework—to face any surveyor with confidence.

Target Audience

Hospice administrators, executive directors, directors of nursing and clinical services, clinical and interdisciplinary group (IDG) managers, QAPI and compliance staff, and agency owners—from small rural hospices to large urban programs. Designed for registered nurses and clinical leaders responsible for survey preparation, regulatory compliance, and quality oversight. Appropriate for leaders new to the hospice survey process and experienced staff seeking a current update on the survey, enforcement, and program-integrity landscape.
