The ubiquitous nature of smartphones and tablets provide a new technology platform for innovative interventions for both clinicians and patients. But there are so many apps, and sometimes the technology is hard to use or understand. How can you know which are right for home care? That’s where this three-part webinar comes in! Join Assistive Technology Specialist Stacy Driscoll for Developing Your APPtitude – Useful Apps for Home Care Clinicians, Clients and Family Caregivers. Specifically designed with home care in mind, Stacy will review over two dozen apps that can help with medication compliance, cueing for dementia, as well as assisting caregivers with monitoring and data collection. Participants will be given practical and objective reviews of existing apps, as well as strategies to evaluate new apps going forward. Participants should have a working smartphone or device available during the session.
October 29, 2015: Enhance Vision, Hearing and Communication: There’s an App for that!
Learn about various apps that enhance the senses, as well as apps that assist those with impairments. Compare apps for the visually impaired, blind, hearing impaired and deaf. Specific features and settings for clients with lack of or delayed speech will also be reviewed.
November 5, 2015: Managing Meds: Explore the Variety and Features in Medication Compliance Apps
Today’s apps offer a variety of reminder alerts. We will discuss setting text, sound and visual reminders, the snooze vs. nag features, as well as the ability to share the information with others. Participants will explore the features of 8 different medication compliance apps while noting the minimum number of steps, as well as comment on the benefits and risks of this information collecting & sharing technology.
November 12, 2015: Apps as Memory Tools: The Caregiver’s New Best Friend
Apps are being developed to exercise the mind, as well as assist with memory tasks. This week’s session will feature apps that assist with memory tasks for those with progressive memory loss through various cuing, as well as apps focused on memory function for patients rehabilitating from TBI or stroke, for example. We will consider apps with text, audio and visual pictures as well as video, and also discuss the best way to educate families in choosing the apps best for them.
During the three-week series clinicians will visit a variety of apps available on both the iOS and Android platforms. They will learn how these apps can improve communications and care for their clients as well as alleviate stress for the patients and caregivers. In each session participants will:
- Explore 8-10 apps focused on the week’s topic
- Identify features to consider when helping clients choose an app
- Experiment with settings available in the app program
- Compare apps and describe their use in real world care settings
If possible, have your own mobile device handy during these webinars!
Faculty: Stacy Driscoll, M. Ed is an Assistive Technology Specialist and the founder of LifeLong Assistive Technology. She consults with teams to deliver comprehensive assistive technology assessments, solutions to maximize functioning, and training to optimize skills. She is a long time educator, and currently serves as program coordinator at New Hampshire’s assistive technology program. Stacy teaches a variety of workshops on assistive technology and aging.

Convenience: This program will be a live online seminar offered by GoToTraining.com, part of the Citrix family of products. There is no limit to the number of attendees from your agency who may participate at your site using one phone line and a computer with internet access. No need to block off these dates and times either, you can train staff on your schedule for up to three months with the recording at no additional cost.
Confirmation: Prior to the first session, a confirmation will be e-mailed to you. This confirmation will include a link to access the presentation handouts, the sign-in sheet, and evaluation, as well as a link enabling you to access the webinar.
Registration Fee: Registration fees are based on one phone/webinar connection; multiple site participation for your agency will require a separate registration fee for each connection.

- Non- Members: $598 for 3 part series
Cancellation Policy: Fees will be refunded only if written cancellation is received one week prior to the workshop and no refunds after the dial-in number is sent to your agency. In the event of a written cancellation, KHCA will retain, or charge, $25 of the initial registration fee, per registrant, to cover administrative overhead.
No CEU credits will be awarded.
